Artist or Store Name:Recycled Reflections
About Jill Friedberg For over three decades following her education at Northwestern University and at The School of the Art Institute Of Chicago, Friedberg has been a nationally recognized visual artist whose works have been exhibited extensively in museums, galleries and universities throughout the United States…and invited to exhibit in Brazil and Argentina . During this time, she developed her inimitable style, fusing her genuine interest in people with her love for expressive art forms. The result is an expression of buoyant exhilaration that is clearly manifested in each of her works. Friedberg’s early work has included large-scale shaped paintings and installation art. As an artist whose commissions also include the creation of symbolic portraits, Friedberg evokes the spiritual essence of a subject without the classical constraints of the usual head portraiture. In her current, “Recycled Reflections” and “No Shame, Beauty, Jill defies the notion of art fitting into neat categories by bending, breaking and fusing traditional boundaries into new art forms. She confronts the pre-existing perceptions about beauty, which she finds in unexpected and unusual places. The work in both series addresses cultural diversity, human interrelationships and natural phenomena potentiated with the thrill of the creative process. It combines a distinct mixture of materials like paint, photography, fabrics, tree bark, laundry lint, paint palette and pencil shavings, glass, wood and metal beads and the like that she has been obsessively collecting . The very spirit of adventure, her joie d’ vie, that led Friedberg to bike her way through much of the world, underscores her quest for the extraordinary. She remarks, “I’m intrigued by any resource that infuses daily life with beauty. Art reveals itself in the most unexpected places. It might appear on an amber colored striated dune in Morocco or in an exquisite window of the neighborhood bakery.” In addition to her work as an artist, Friedberg has curated many exhibitions, planned and coordinated cultural events, installed and organized many one-person and group exhibitions at art galleries and served as a judge for many art competitions. Also, Friedberg served on the board of WAREHOUSE 1005 a non-for-profit organization for artists who want to develop and enhance their skills in a more independent and entrepreneurial environment. .
